Pioneers

and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation…”

Kingdom Journeys Pioneers will send small groups of mature, high-capacity, self-motivated co-ed teams of World Race alumni into the 10/40 window, the region of the world spanning from North Africa to Southeast Asia that is most unreached by the Gospel

This Pioneering Team will be eyes and ears into a region that we have barely scratched the surface of. This team will provide both factual information on the region, as well as spiritual context for what the Lord is doing here.

While a minor focus of this trip will be to find ministry partners for future teams, the primary goal will be to join the Lord in what He’s doing in this region, and to share the Gospel with those who may have never had the opportunity to hear it. The training will specifically reflect this. Any ministry partnerships developed or ministry opportunities pursued should be an overflow of the team’s focus on relational discipleship and having Gospel conversations.

This trip will be much more autonomous and loosely framed than the World Race. While still comprising a journey (both physically and spiritually), this trip will be more adaptable to the desires, skill-sets, and callings of the participants. The team will be expected to follow the ways the Lord is leading, join Him in His work in the region, and practice what they have learned on the World Race. There will mostly be no set ministry; rather, ministry will be largely as the participant makes it. This trip is for those who believe that life is ministry, and don’t require a schedule or organization to tell them when and what to do. This will require discernment and obedience, as well as self-motivation and resourcefulness. Participants would ideally be passionate about the region they are launching to or what the Lord is doing among unreached people in that region, must be able to travel and operate independently, and must be able to foster a healthy team dynamic.

This trip provides mid-term access and exposure for Alumni who may have a heart for more specific unreached regions or peoples. While not long term, and while long term aspirations are not at all required to join this team, consider this trip a mid-term launch pad. Until all have heard.

FAQ

Q:  WHAT IS KINGDOM JOURNEY PIONEERS?

A: Kingdom Journey Pioneers is an opportunity for a small group of intrepid World Race alumni to pioneer new routes, countries, and regions for ministry. These groups will go to places where Adventures in Missions doesn’t currently operate, but is hoping to expand its capacity and influence. Teams spend between 100-120 days living and serving in a specific area or region, along a carefully planned route. These journeys are designed for participants to gather on-the-ground information that will allow future groups and teams to work in these areas. Each participant will contribute and develop their own unique gifts of pioneering, logistics, reconnaissance, and networking for the sake of laying the groundwork for future missions endeavors.

Q:  WHO WOULD MAKE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR KINGDOM JOURNEYS PIONEERS?

A: We are looking for spiritually and emotionally mature leaders to pioneer these journeys. Participants must be World Race alumni, preferably in their mid-20’s or older, with a solid foundation of both identity and mission. Participants should be comfortable with independent travel, organizing trip logistics, and handling complex details. They should have strong interpersonal communication skills, and have the ability to think on their feet and solve complex problems. Finally, they should have a heart for the people and the region that they’re hoping to pioneer. This is not a journey for the faint of heart! We hope to launch radical followers of Jesus to give their lives away building a foundation for future labor and fruit, using the unique qualities they’ve been equipped with for just that purpose.

Q: WHY SHOULD I GO?

A: Kingdom Journeys Pioneers is for those that know the Lord has placed a specific passion, calling, or purpose on their life to work among the unreached in the 10/40 window and develop contacts and inroads into these areas. These trips will help develop participants’ skills in the areas of administration, logistics, networking, and host development while serving to further the scope of ministry efforts by Adventures in Missions.

Q:  HOW IS THIS JOURNEY DIFFERENT FROM THE WORLD RACE?

A:  Kingdom Journeys Pioneers is an opportunity for World Race alumni who have experienced radical life change and developed a heart for the nations, and are ready to further develop their skills and passions during a period of activation and apprenticeship. This journey will be an opportunity for Alumni to walk out and put into practice what the Lord has already begun in them. Participants will take ownership of their own journey. They will be responsible for finding their own food, accommodations, and transportation. They will be responsible for solving problems, gathering information, and developing each other spiritually with significant freedom. Participants will have the latitude to really make this journey their own.

Q: WHAT DO TEAMS DO ON THE FIELD?

These trips will have two primary objectives. Participants will have the freedom to make the days their own, as long as they meet these two objectives.

  1. Teams will need to do reconnaissance and gather information on the following:
    1. Risk assessment and safety
    2. Cost
    3. Ministry feasibility for future teams or long term missionaries
    4. Potential ministry opportunities
    5. Route logistics, visa particulars, and border crossings
  2. Teams will need to find and develop potential hosts and ‘Men of Peace’. Participants will help us follow up on leads, who are contacts that we have talked to online or over the phone, but have never met them in person or seen their ministries. You will help us assess the possibility for future partnership. And they will also meet and assess new contacts that the Lord leads them to.

Q: WHAT IF I HAVE A SPECIFIC COUNTRY OR REGION IN MIND THAT I WANT TO HELP DEVELOP?

A:  Kingdom Journey Pioneers trips are designed around specific needs and informational gaps. If we are launching a specific trip at a specific time, it is because there is a timely need for the information that the trip would provide. We have a number of trips in mind that will likely launch in the next 2 or 3 years as the need for the information becomes more pressing. However, if you have a specific country or region in mind that you are passionate about developing, don’t hesitate to contact us, and we’ll discuss if there is potential to launch a trip in that region. Email us at kingdomjourneys@adventures.org

Q: ARE THERE ALL FEMALE OR ALL MALE TEAMS?

A: Both female and male applicants are accepted, and participants are chosen based on our ability to craft the most cohesive, well-balanced, and skilled team for each particular route. The possibility for all female or all male teams is there, however we do believe that a co-ed team is generally a more mature representation of the church, and that due to the more extreme nature of some of these regions (physically, culturally, etc), an all female team might be ill-advised.

Q:  WHAT DOES MENTORING AND DISCIPLESHIP LOOK LIKE ON THE FIELD?

A: The focus of Kingdom Journeys Pioneers is much more outward-facing than the World Race. While we are sure that spiritual and emotional development will naturally occur, there will not be a discipleship structure built in to the trip. There won’t be any team leaders, mentors, C&Cs, or team time. You will be expected to use the skills and practices you gained on the Race, without any direct oversight. Spiritual and emotional maturity, as well as a deep understanding of your identity is a prerequisite for acceptance, so that the primary focus of the trip can be more about activation and mission. The focus of this trip will be much more about practical apprenticeship, activating skills and disciplines, and developing independence and leadership.

Q:  WHAT DOES THE PRE-LAUNCH TRAINING ENTAIL?

A: Immediately prior to each launch, teams gather in Gainesville, GA at the Adventures in Missions Headquarters for a few days of training. The team will learn more information about their route as well as exchange resources and information they found regarding the specific countries they will be visiting. Teams will also be briefed on all of the logistical and financial information they will be expected to gather. Kingdom Journeys Pioneers believe in collaboration and empowerment. As such, Pioneer teams will be expected to take on the responsibility of their own logistics, and will be expected to arrive to in Gainesville with a thorough knowledge and familiarity of the places they will go.

Q:  WHAT LOCATIONS WILL THE TEAM SPEND TIME IN?

A: Our routes are made based on the need of our contacts and the best fit for each team. Routes are decided prior to pre-launch training for each individual team and may be subject to change. Most locations will be regions that Adventures in Missions currently doesn’t operate in, or places where they don’t have a clear on-the-ground understanding. Check out our Upcoming Journeys for trips you can journey with us.

Q:  ARE THESE PLACES SAFE?

A: Kingdom Journeys Pioneers will be looking to push the boundaries of Adventures in Missions’ operations. By the very nature of pioneering, these regions will be inherently more remote, unreached, or even dangerous. As such, there is a significantly higher level of spiritual need and risk. While this trip will focus much more on autonomy, independence, and adult responsibility for the participants, this trip will still operate under the umbrella of Adventures in Missions. There are still limits imposed by Organization, program, and liability. However, these trips will attempt to push some of those limits. The locations in these trips will require an additional amount of maturity, awareness, and an intrepid spirit. That being said, we are not sending participants to any locations where they will be put in excessive danger. We will go to great lengths to make sure that participants are fully aware of the increasing demands and risks associated with these regions and countries. We even hope that those increased demands and risks are part of the attraction to prospective applicants. This trip will help prepare and enable participants to work in these regions with an increased devotion to sacrifice for the spread of the Gospel and the glory of the Lord.

Q:  WHAT IS THE TRIP COST FOR KINGDOM JOURNEYS?

A: Each Kingdom Journeys Pioneers trip cost have a few factors that determine the price, and covers training, food, lodging, and transportation. The trip costs are primarily determined by the cost of airline tickets, overland transportation, regional cost of living expenses, and trip duration. All costs will be covered from the time participants arrive in Gainesville for training, to when they leave Gainesville upon returning. Participants will be required to purchase their own travel to and from GainesvilleRound-trip tickets to the field will be bought to and from Atlanta.

Q:  WHEN IS THE MONEY DUE FOR KINGDOM JOURNEYS?

Details and dates will be provided upon acceptance, but participants will be expected to be fully funded before their launch date.

Q:  CAN A NON-U.S CITIZEN APPLY FOR KINGDOM JOURNEYS?

A: Yes. Non-U.S. Citizens who meet all other KJ requirements may apply and be accepted at staff’s discretion. Understand that in extreme cases, differences in visa policies for non-US citizens may negatively affect the feasibility of travel within certain countries. However, the inverse is also potentially true: a non-US citizen might have more opportunity and access to certain countries than a US citizen.

Q:  HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR KINGDOM JOURNEYS PIONEERS?

A: Check out our Upcoming Journeys page for more information and follow the application instructions. Applicants will be asked a series of questions about their spiritual and emotional maturity, their passion and interest in the specific route, and any skills they have that would lend them to pioneering work. Please fill out these questions thoroughly, as we will only further interview applicants in extreme cases.

Q:  WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF GETTING ACCEPTED TO KINGDOM JOURNEYS PIONEERS?

A: We are looking for small, elite teams of participants, in order to be fully mobile and adaptable. Acceptance is dependent on staff discretion of your ability to contribute to the mission of the trip, and to function well in a small group. We will be obtaining verbal references from your Coaches or Squad Mentors. Kingdom Journeys isn’t for everyone, and we are looking to be selective in who we accept.
