Potential participants have all kinds of questions about Kingdom Journeys. Here are a few commonly asked questions:
Q: WHAT IS A KINGDOM JOURNEY?
A: A Kingdom Journey is a 3-6 month overseas trip, primarily for World Race Alumni (although we are open to the Spirit’s leading to exceptions) to walk out their unique Kingdom callings.
Teams of 4-8 spend 2 months each in 3 separate locations, ministering in their one specific passion. This is a journey that goes beyond self for the sake of serving others. Each participant becomes a pioneer in developing and investing their own unique gifts into the sustainability of a long-term program.
Q: WHO WOULD MAKE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR KINGDOM JOURNEYS?
A: We are looking for spiritually and emotionally mature leaders to pioneer these journeys. Adults, preferably in their mid-20’s and older with substantial missions experience may qualify. This is not a journey for the faint of heart. We hope to launch radical followers of Jesus to give their lives away, using the unique qualities they’ve been equipped with for just that purpose.
Q: WHY SHOULD I GO?
A: If you feel that the Lord has placed a specific passion, calling, or purpose on your life, but are unsure how to pursue it, Kingdom Journeys may be for you! We form teams around one specific type of ministry and launch you to go test the waters alongside a team who shares your passion.
Q: HOW IS THIS JOURNEY DIFFERENT FROM THE WORLD RACE?
A: Kingdom Journeys takes men and women who have previously experienced brokenness and propels them into their specific calling as emerging leaders in the Kingdom.
If you have not experienced the top 3 on this list then you should consider the World Race.
A Kingdom Journey is different than the World Race in that participants are focusing on ONE specific type of ministry. The World Race is designed to stretch and grow new missionaries and try out many kinds of field ministry. Kingdom Journeys is the next step. If a certain ministry lights your heart on fire, Kingdom Journeys is the vehicle to propel you further into that passion by giving you resources, context, support, and contacts before you go on to pursue this calling with the rest of your life.
Q: WHAT DO TEAMS DO ON THE FIELD?
A: Are you ready to step into your calling? We exist for your dreams to come to life. Routes vary based on team interest and could include women’s ministry (Beauty for Ashes,) men’s ministry, orphan care, medical missions, business development, the 10/40 window, or whatever calling the Lord has laid on your heart. For details on specific upcoming routes, inquire here.
Q: IS THERE INTEREST IN LAUNCHING ANOTHER KJ MEN’S TEAM?
A: You tell us! We are eager to assemble the next KJ Men’s team and are interested to hear your ministry dream. The next KJ Men’s ministry proposal will be funneled through our Long Term Missions Department, in order to come alongside Adventures’ long term strategies around the world. We are confident that this will allow for fruitful and fulfilling ministry and ensure that our efforts are sustainable in the local community, after we leave.
Q: WHAT WOULD A KJ MEN’S TRIP LOOK LIKE?
A: It would look like a team of passionate young men rallying around a specific ministry dream, working alongside local missionaries to make that kingdom dream a reality. The type of ministry focus and route of the team is up for discussion! Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to start the conversation.
Q: ARE THERE CO-ED TEAMS?
A: Kingdom Journeys Pioneers could be for you!
If you have other ideas, email us at email@example.com to start the conversation.
Q: WHAT IS A BEAUTY FOR ASHES ROUTE? WHAT DOES A RETREAT LOOK LIKE?
A: The mission of the Beauty for Ashes ministry is empowering women to experience God’s restoration and hope through storytelling and community. Our vision is to see restored women of all nations serving as Christ’s ambassadors for change, healing, and freedom in their homes, communities, and cultures.
On a B4A route, Kingdom Journeys women’s teams minister to women in particular bondage through retreats, offering a safe place to embrace the Holy Spirit’s healing and freedom through the sharing of our own stories. At the retreats, women are taken away from the day-to-day to be pampered and loved in the way that their Father sees them. They are encouraged to open up and allow the Spirit to bring healing to the dark parts of their stories, leading to immense freedom and redemption! Learn more about Beauty for Ashes here.
Q: FOR A BEAUTY FOR ASHES ROUTE, WHAT DOES MINISTRY LOOK LIKE ON THE FIELD?
A: Teams spend their time building relationships with local women. This may include bar ministry when partnering with anti-trafficking ministries, doing life alongside local mothers in villages when partnering with longterm partners, or simply becoming a part of the community through prayer walks, community dinners, and get-togethers. Once relationships grow, women are invited to the retreats, which are coordinated and run solely by the KJ team. After each retreat, the team focuses on rich follow-up, identifying leaders within the community and empowering them to continue this ministry through gatherings, Bible Studies, and future retreats long after the KJ team has moved on. Our desire is to see sustainable and lasting impact through the raising up of local leaders, newly confident in their identity as daughters of the King.
Q: WHAT DOES MENTORING LOOK LIKE ON THE FIELD?
A: Each KJ team member is assigned a coach who has walked with the Lord for an extended time and can relate and understand the struggles that may occur for a young missionary. Coaches are in weekly contact with their team member and commit to praying diligently for the team’s specific needs. The team is also mentored by a staff Team Mentor who closely leads from the office and visits on the field, as well as a team leader who has demonstrated exceptional maturity and dependance on the Lord.
Q: WHAT SHOULD I PACK?
A: Click here to view the Beauty for Ashes packing list.
Q: WHAT DOES THE PRE-LAUNCH TRAINING ENTAIL?
A: Immediately prior to each launch, teams gather in Gainesville, GA at the Adventures in Missions Headquarters for 2-3 weeks of training. The team lives togethers, prays together, practices feedback and team building, receives their team roles, and prepares for their journey through route-specific training with their Team Mentor.
Q: WHAT IS THE PHYSICAL JOURNEY?
A: Immediately after training, the team launches on their Physical Journey. Adventures in Missions founder, Seth Barnes has seen this concept prove to have foundational truths: When you push yourself in the physical, you grow in the spiritual. The Physical Journey entails a 4-6 day hike or other physically stretching adventure which serves to mimic the spiritual strenuousness and growth in the months to come. The team must work together to reach their goal, leaving no one behind and relying on prayer and dependence on the Lord to see them through.
Q: WHAT LOCATIONS WILL THE TEAM SPEND TIME IN?
A: Our routes are made based on the need of our contacts and the best fit for each team. Routes are decided prior to pre-launch training for each individual team and may be subject to change.
Q: WHAT IS THE TRIP COST FOR KINGDOM JOURNEYS?
A: Each Beauty for Ashes journey is $12,000 and covers on-field travel, food, lodging, and ministry expenses.
